Noodz is a leading figure in the Web3 space. He founded Neptune Consults, a company specializing in NFT onboarding and IP development. Plus, he’s also one of the advisors of Anzali and moderators of World of Women NFTs.
💼 What were you doing before Web3?
At the moment, I own and run a residential building company. I’m also a discord mod for World of Women and I have an NFT based consulting business that my wife and I are slowly building out.
🤔 How did you get into Web3?
I got into NFTs back in March 2021, thanks to Gary Vee and VeeFriends. I have followed GV for a long time and I love his content.
When kept on talking about NFTs for the first few months of 2021, I started doing a heap of research. I then decided to jump in and see what it was all about.
🚀 What was your first crypto or NFT project?
I bought my first ETH back in April 2021, so I could mint a VeeFriend. I chose a Rare Badass Bulldog. I didn’t tell my wife at the time because I thought she would think I was crazy and would have tried talking me out of it lol.
🧠 How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?
If someone asks, I usually tell them that I buy and sell digital assets that are traded using cryptocurrency.
If they want to know more, I tell them that I do the community moderating and that I also have an advisory/consulting business based around NFTs.
Most of the people I talk to about NFTs are intrigued but have no idea what they are or potentially can be.
💡 Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?
I have many that I follow to try and learn from in different areas of life. In crypto and NFTs,
Punk6529 is definitely one of them.
Wizard of SoHo is the one I’ve learnt a lot from when it comes to the macro environment and trading accordingly.
Outside of NFTs, I love Jocko Willink when it comes to leadership and for business and personal development I love Andy Frisella, Ed Mylett and Gary Vee.
🥳 What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?
The biggest highlight of my working career has been building my own company. I started it from scratch and built it up over the last 5 years into something I’m pretty proud of.
Before that, I had a decent semi-professional career playing Australian Rules Football. I played in 15 grand finals over my senior career and we won 10 of them. Playing sport is something I’ve done most of my life and I love the parallels between sport and business.
📈 What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?
I’m still relatively new to crypto and the tech behind it, so it’s not so much that I’m watching a certain trend.
However, this is my first bear market cycle and it’s both daunting and fascinating at the same time to see how things have happened since the bull run ended.
I’d like to think I’ve learned some valuable (and costly) lessons. And if or when there is another bull cycle, I’ll be much better prepared and ready to deal with it differently.
🤝 What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?
Learn as much as you can before you buy your first NFT. Gary Vee recommended doing 50 hours of research before buying and I did that in a couple of weeks. I continue to research and educate myself on as many different areas as possible.
When you do decide this is for you and you want to buy your first NFT or cryptocurrency, DYOR. And make sure you know what you’re buying into.
I focus on NFTs mainly, so for that, I would suggest joining a discord or two. And getting a feel for a project before buying.
Ask questions. Make sure you know what your investment timeframe is. And if you’re buying something, only use money you are prepared to lose. However, if you’re not just trying to flip, buy things you like and would be happy to hold if the price goes below what you paid for it.
🎤 If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?
My TED talk would probably be around the similarities between team sports and business. And how important it is to be a strong, yet empathetic leader, if you want to get the best out of your team.
🚨 What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?
Tough question…maybe a fishing rod? I would say my family but there’s more than one and I couldn’t leave the other 2 behind haha
POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
