How To Make Web3 Resume | Complete Guide With Template

The growth of the Web3 industry has created a new wave of job opportunities and careers. Web3 participants congregate on Twitter which at times can be a minefield.

If you have ever wondered how you can get noticed on Twitter, creating a Web3 resume might just do the trick.

A jpeg resume is visually appealing and can be easily retweeted on the social media platform.

Unbound by traditional resume writing rules and applicant tracking systems (ATS), it’s also an opportunity for you to craft your Web3 persona.

In this step by step guide, we will teach you how you can create your own Web3 resume. Make sure to read until the end to receive an editable template.

Differences of Web2 and Web3 resumes

Before we begin, it’s best to set expectations.

As Web3 operates in its own world, your Web3 resume may not be acceptable to HR and hiring managers of traditional organizations.

Make sure to prepare a separate version when applying to Web2 companies.

These are distinct differences:

• Formality – traditional resumes are straightforward with details listed line by line. This makes it easier for ATS to pickup and filter information. As one of your goals is to receive high engagement online, your Web3 resume comes with creative freedom.

• Identity – Web3 organizations do not care about what college degree you have or your non Web3 work experience. What matters are the connections you’ve made and the skills you’ve developed in the space. Whether or not you want to create a new identity is entirely up to you.

• Security – as your resume will be floating online, you may want to omit certain information that you would normally place: address, emails, mobile numbers, etc.

Now that you’re aware of these differences, let’s get to the actual resume.

A Web3 resume of a good-looking guy

Step 1: Place a catchy profile picture

In standard resumes, profile pictures (PFPs) have been omitted to avoid gender and looks biases.

In Web3 though, profile pictures tell a lot about the person especially if they’re using a Non-Fungible Token (NFT).

Many people have gone and established their identities around their PFPs.

A profile picture from an established collection such as Bored Ape Yacht Club tells us about which community you’re a part of, the possible size of your Web3 wallet, as well as other holdings you might have.

If you don’t have any notable NFT collections to highlight, then you can simply place any photo of your choosing.

Step 2: Make an impactful profile

Begin your Web3 resume with a name and functional title that you would like to be known for.

In my case, I have been establishing my Web3 brand around Jaime Does Web3, a somewhat serious and analytical Web3 Writer. 

Once you’ve thought about these two things, it’s time to create a personal value proposition.

In two to three sentences, distill the value that you can provide to potential customers and organizations.

Here’s a quick guide of what your value proposition should contain:

• Target Market – a clearly identified audience

• Strengths – indicates what you are good at. Whether that’s development, coding, or writing.

• Impact – how your strengths can directly help the target market.

Step 3: Place contact details on the Web3 resume

Aside from Twitter, you may have other ways of communication such as mobile numbers or email.

In addition to contact details, place relevant links to your website, github, medium, or any location which can showcase your talents and abilities.

Remember, as you’ll be placing these details online, you may want to protect certain information such as your address.

Step 4: Fill-out your skills and tools

Web3 employers can look for specific skills given the recency of certain technology.

If you’re proficient in coding in Solidity or highly knowledgeable in the Avalanche blockchain, place these in a list.

If you can’t think of a skill to put down, don’t worry. Skills can be broken down into hard (technical) skills and soft skills.

In the section below your skills, place the tools that you’re proficient with.

These could be project management tools such as Asana or Jira, or communication platforms such as Discord. Especially for Web3, Discord allows communities to band together and interact.

Step 5: Is Education needed?

Web3 communities tend to look past education. That’s the beauty of this space. You could have started as a lawyer but ended up as an artist and it would not matter.

If you feel like your education would help your profile, then feel free to place it in.

Here are significant educational milestones that may be worth placing in:

• Specialized studies – if you have a degree in quantitative math or a completed a coding bootcamp, some employers would look for these. Especially for quant related work such as quantitative trading and liquidity management, high-level math skills appear important.

• Certification – from renowed institutions such as CFA Institution or blockchain risk and compliance.

• Scholarships and Funding – if you’ve received business funding as a part of a cohort or scholarships, put these in as it demonstrates that you’re at the top of your class.

Step 6: Well-tailored Experience will put you on top

In the absence of a portfolio, your experience will be the major highlight of your Web3 resume.

Use this section to spotlight the following:

• Organizations – place the name of the company that you’ve worked with. Working for a well known organization can be a major value add in the eyes of interested parties.

• Position – the job or functional title that you performed.

• Date – relevant dates in relation to your stay in the company

• Results – where most people get it wrong, make sure to place down results instead of responsibilities. If you’ve positively impacted the organization’s revenue or profitability, make sure to place those.
