POW with Yosu

Yosu, or Darth Yosu on Twitter, is a certified blockchain expert. He has been in the crypto space since early 2017.

What were you doing before Web3?

I was working marketing communications for a telco before and during time a really got into web3. Fun gig for a guy that’s really into things like Star Wars and Marvel, it was insanely fun.

How did you get into Web3?

It started years back (sometime early 2017 maybe?) with small investments into crypto. Nothing serious. I didn’t even have my own account! I was giving money to a cousin for him to buy with his account.

It got more serious in 2018 when I tried to actually learn about crypto and the different types of crypto (researching those things isn’t easy!) and then in 2021 I got into NFTs with the help of none other than @Jbondwagon.

What was your first crypto or NFT project?

The crypto I picked up back with my cousin was XRP (because I thought it was cheap!) and the first NFTs were Cryptofoxes (still with me but the project doesn’t seem to have had any action) and the Cryptomories (Famorie strong!).

How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?

I invest (not always successfully) in both unique and non-unique digital assets.

Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?

@Coinbureau and @niftyportal are content creators that I enjoy. While I find Nifty portal to be a bit long as a show, the show has allowed me to hear about so many projects in the space. Coinbureau really knows how to condense stuff and explain complicated matters in digestible chunks which is something I really really appreciate because it’s something I try to do myself.

What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?

I got lucky from my Otherside mint and was able flip my feed for a good price. I used the proceeds plus some stashed ETH to pick up my MAYC in July 2022. It was far from mint day and it was a huge thing to commit to. But the moment I pressed that buy button I knew I was in the game for the long run.

What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?

AI is going nuts and is all over the news but I’m secretly waiting to see how the metaverse situation is going to develop. I think on some level a lot of us expect it but I’m ready interested to see the kind of entry it will make this year (if any).

What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?

On patience: Web3 can be intimidating and on some level it’s so new that no one really understands it in full. It’s okay to start but you have to be willing to put in the work and the time to learn.

On money matters: If you have money in Web3 and you are losing sleep over it – you are over invested (aka only put in what you can afford to lose) and not your keys, not your crypto (I learned this the hard way).

If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?

Simplifying the Complex. I have a habit of explaining things through analogies – help me understand things better and it helps me explain things to people with little to no knowledge on what I’m talking about. I actually really enjoying getting a simplified point across that everyone can understand.

The key to the talk would be being conscious of what you’re talking about so that whoever you’re talking to can understand you.

What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?

A phone with my liked Spotify songs downloaded, audiobooks, and a cooler full of IPA beers. Okay that’s two things, you got me.

POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
