POW with Victor G
Victor G is the Co-Founder of Lua Labs, a web3 development company. He is helping build web technology and digital NFTs while also being a front-end Web3 developer in the space.
What were you doing before Web3?
Currently, I am a full-time software engineer specializing in front-end web development at a major financial firm.
Additionally, I co-founded Lua Labs with two other partners. We are a web3 development company that assists projects with their technical needs while also working on our own ambitious web3 social media project.
In addition to my work in technology, I enjoy exploring art and creative projects as a hobby. Perhaps someday this passion will evolve into something more substantial. But for now, you can view some of my artwork here just for fun.
How did you get into Web3?
My interest in Web3 was piqued in September 2021 when I watched a video about NFTs and began researching the topic.
I started by purchasing some NFTs on Polygon and then, in November, created my first project called Lucid Paths, which is a generative art and audio NFT collection.
What was your first crypto or NFT project?
The first NFT project I bought into was called Buttheads. The art was hilariously unique, and although the project didn’t survive, it served as a great introduction to the quirky world of NFT communities.
How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?
For those with a basic understanding of programming, I explain that I work as a software engineer in web3/blockchain technology.
If they aren’t familiar with Web3, I usually send them an informative article on the topic, rather than diving into the complexities of NFTs.
Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?
I find the daily NFT countdown show on YouTube, hosted by NFTstatistics, incredibly insightful. I also enjoy participating in the zenDaily Twitter Spaces led by Zeneca.
What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?
While I am still in the early stages of my career with many ambitious plans, I would say that my proudest accomplishment so far is working and earning a promotion in the Web2 world.
However, I’m determined to create even more significant achievements with Lua Labs and the projects we’re developing.
What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?
I believe this year is all about building. I’m closely monitoring new web3 products and their implementation, as well as the growth of existing brands and products.
Besides that, it seems like there are many opportunities in this space, with not many people keeping an eye on them.
What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?
The appropriate advice really depends on the individual’s goals. For most people, simply getting involved in web3 can provide enjoyment, skill development, and valuable learning experiences.
For those looking to build in the space, I recommend being patient. Although the industry pressures everyone to move quickly, creating something exceptional takes time, especially without substantial funding or a medium-to-large team.
If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?
It’s difficult to choose, but I believe the most value I could offer would be sharing my unique journey – moving from Brazil to the United States, learning English, attending college, and discovering my passion for programming.
What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?
I would bring a satellite phone or perhaps even an unfiled US tax return, I am sure the IRS would find a way to find me.
