POW With Troy Lorenzo

Troy Lorenzo is a multi-talented individual with a diverse range of interests and expertise.

As a developer and entrepreneur, he is driven by his insatiable thirst for knowledge and passion for the technology industry, particularly in the Web3 space.

Alongside his professional pursuits, Troy is also a filmmaker, musician, and home chef with a flair for cooking (what he’d like to think as) Michelin-star worthy dishes.

However, he never forgets his trusty sidekick – a strong cup of coffee to keep him energized and focused throughout the day.

What were you doing before Web3?

My web 2.0 version consists of three things: full stack development, machine learning development, and data analysis.

I now ask myself: How can I integrate this with blockchain technology? Or better— how can the cross of these disciplines solve real-world problems?

How did you get into Web3?

I first heard the words “crypto” and “NFTs” on Reddit space. During one rainy day during the pandemic, decided to look more into crypto.

What started as a casual investigation quickly became a journey of discovery as I uncovered the interconnected web of concepts— blockchain, DeFi, NFTs, and Smart Contracts.

I can now say that the Web3 rabbit hole goes pretty deep.

What was your first crypto or NFT project?

Hello Charlie NFT! I had a friend there who invited me to onboard and do some work for their project. HC is now in the development of creating a LinkedIn, but it’s Web3-ified!

How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?

I code stuff and explain trending technology (like you’d explain it to a five-year-old)

Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?

As a developer, I would choose HashLips NFT, who has immensely forwarded my knowledge as a Web3 developer.

His tutorials and expertise are invaluable when learning how to create DAPPs, code with smart contracts, and understand the web3 space. Joma Tech and Tech Lead are also my go-to’s.

What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?

To me, it’s not a specific moment or achievement that defined my career but rather the journey of learning, networking, and building relationships.

It’s the process of taking risks, making mistakes, and continuously trying new things that have been the most rewarding and fulfilling aspect of my career.

What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?

The Artificial intelligence trend stands out because major tech companies are giving users access to tools that can automate everyday tasks. And access a plethora of knowledge, create art, and do everything right here and now — right at their fingertips! Wait until jobs like “Prompt Engineer” or “AI Whisperers” become a thing.

What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?

I don’t want to be cliche but— do your own research. There’s a lot of great advice and knowledge and at the same time, dangerous and unfounded resources.

Figure out how and why it works, understand the purpose of its existence— question everything!

If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?

Learning How To Learn: Why you are your biggest asset

What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?

A bolo knife, cause how will you open up the coconuts? (and maybe I could carve out a chessboard in case I get bored)

POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
