POW with Theo Roque
Theo Roque is the co-founder and CEO of The Howdy Studios. The said studio is a hub of experienced and well-trained web3 builders offering both staffing and solutions delivery services.
What were you doing before Web3?
I’ve been coding on a daily basis since 2011 and have been building web apps since 2015. I was also singing with the UP Singing Ambassadors and toured European countries back in 2018 and 2019.
How did you get into Web3?
In 2017, my product manager and I were working on a project that requires us to dig deep in the web for research purposes for our web app, and we eventually stumbled upon Bitcoin.
What was your first crypto or NFT project?
First crypto is Bitcoin, of course. First NFT was supposed to be CryptoKitties but I don’t have that much resources and I don’t see much worth for NFTs back then. And then Axie Infinity came that made me buy my first NFT.
How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?
I’ll tell them that I’m building the next generation of web apps where you don’t need to provide your email addresses, passwords or any of your personal information, but also allows you to legitimately own your digital assets.
Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?
I’m currently listening to a lot of the y00ts community spaces and I really like the insights from its founder, Frank DeGods. He’s a brilliant guy and I really like his insights about growing and building a community, tech innovation, leardership and marketing.
What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Establishing relationships and connections with founders and true builders in the web3 space, and being able to build with them with our respective communities.
What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?
The intersection or bridge between AI and Web3. I, myself, am building tools to utilize both in an upcoming NFT collection.
What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?
Learn by doing. Research is important but execution is just as important. Stop over analyzing things and just do it. Burn some assets, have negative PNLs, get liquidated and more. But be wise enough not to get scammed or drained.
If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?
How web3 changes how we perceive and use the internet, and what a world would look like if it’s adopted by the masses already.
What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?
I need more context. Does the island have enough resources? If yes, I’ll bring a book or manual for building a boat.
POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
