POW with Myrtle Anne Ramos

Myrtle Anne Ramos is the founder and CEO of Block Tides and PlaceWar Besides that, she is also a serial entrepreneur, public speaker, moderator, philanthropist, angel investor, and more in Web3 scene.

What were you doing before Web3?

I had extensive experience in the technology, marketing, and public relations fields. These include working as an account executive and senior quality analyst for companies/accounts such as Apple, Comcast, and GoDaddy before entering the world of Web3.

How did you get into Web3?

In 2016, my journey into the worlds of blockchain, Web3, cryptocurrency, and the metaverse began, initially as a trader and investor.

I started as an investor relations professional for a project similar to Spotify and later became a director at Asia Token Fund Group.

Eventually, I decided to take a leap of faith and become an entrepreneur by founding Block Tides.

My background in technology, consulting, branding, marketing, public relations, business development, and growth got me interested in this field. As well as my entrepreneurial spirit and desire to innovate and make a positive difference.

What was your first crypto or NFT project?

Back in 2017, I founded a PR and marketing firm focused on Blockchain, AI, and Crypto. Recently, in 2021, I launched a project called PlaceWar.

This project was able to raise $2.2 million and $3 million in NFT sales with the support of lead investors including Crypto.com Capital, LD Capital, AC Capital, and 40 venture capitalists.

How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?

As a professional who works in Web3, my job is to find and create new ways to use blockchain, cryptocurrency, and other new technologies to make people’s lives better in different ways. In simpler terms, I work to find new and exciting ways to use technology to make things better and more efficient.

This can include anything from creating new digital assets to developing decentralized applications to investing in promising new projects that have the potential to drive meaningful change. Ultimately, my goal is to help people better understand the potential of Web3 and to use my skills and experience to contribute to its growth and development.

Well, if I am going to explain it to a 5-year-old kid here’s what I am going to say: “I help people use the internet in a special way to create new things that can be really fun and exciting, like virtual worlds where we can play games and meet new friends.

It’s kind of like using your imagination to make new things, but with the help of the internet. Imagine that all these different things you like to play with or watch on TV, like games, movies, and videos, can be created and played with using a special world that exists only on the internet. And my job is to help make sure that people can use this world and play with all these things safely and easily.”

CZ is also a well-known personality in the crypto industry. He is frequently sharing his insights and viewpoints on social media platforms such as Twitter. His optimistic and positive outlook on the future of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology is both inspiring and motivating.

Perhaps one of the reasons why I enjoy learning from CZ is due to his success as an entrepreneur and his prominent position in the crypto community.

The tech and crypto trends that I am closely watching this year is the persistent development of decentralized finance (DeFi).

Besides that, I’m also in the look out for ascendancy of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). And the growing acceptance of blockchain technology among businesses and institutions.

And finally, to the emergence of Web3 and the metaverse, and the progression of cryptocurrency regulations worldwide.

What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?

For someone starting out in Web3, my advice would be to first gain a strong understanding of blockchain technology and its various applications such as DeFi, NFTs, and cryptocurrencies.

You can learn through online resources, courses, and attending virtual events to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the industry.

Building relationships and connections is essential in any industry, so networking with other professionals in the Web3 space is important. Participating in hackathons, coding challenges, and joining online communities can provide practical experience and help you build your skills.

It’s important to connect and engage with others in the industry through attending conferences and social media. Developing connections can help you stay informed about industry trends, receive feedback on your projects, and open up collaboration or employment opportunities.

Finally, don’t be afraid to take risks and embrace innovation in this rapidly evolving field. Be curious and open-minded, and don’t shy away from the challenges and opportunities that come your way.

If you could do a TED talk on any topic, what would it be?

A compelling topic that deserves exploration is how advanced technologies such as Blockchain, AI, and automation could potentially shape the future of work and employment. As these technologies continue to advance rapidly, there are concerns about potential job displacement and the need to re-skill and up-skill the workforce.

With this, this could lead to examining possible solutions and strategies to tackle this issue, such as policy changes, educational initiatives, and innovative approaches to the labor market. It could also explore the ethical implications of a world with increasingly intelligent machines and the crucial role of human creativity and empathy in shaping the future of work.

What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?

I will bring a multi-purpose tool, like a Swiss Army knife, which can be used for various tasks such as cutting wood, opening cans, and building my shelter.
