POW with Miccolo Solis

Miccolo Solis is an NFT builder in the metaverse and a content creator. He is also a YGG Lead Game Ambassador for The Sandbox and Chief Marketing Officer of XOVOX Labs.

  What were you doing before Web3?

I am a person who is a jack of all trades but a master of none. After I graduated from college, I followed my passion rather than my degree.

I started a streetwear brand, driven by my love for fashion. At the same time, I pursued my childhood dream of becoming an actor.

This led to opportunities for both me and my fiancée to explore the world of YouTube and content creation, which in turn resulted in collaborations with local and international brands.

During the pandemic, I took on the additional challenge of live streaming for a local e-commerce app. I believe my love for learning is what drives me to take on new opportunities and challenges.

I’m always eager to expand my skills and knowledge.

How did you get into Web3?

In 2017, a friend introduced me to buying Bitcoin. At the time, I was only interested in the coin prices and didn’t research the technology behind it.

In late 2020, I watched a YouTube video of Kookoo Crypto TV about Axie Infinity and was intrigued, which led me to learn more about Web3.

I read an article about Gabby Dizon and Yield Guild Games, shared in an Axie Infinity Facebook group. This led to me being asked by Kookoo to play and become a scholar.

This kickstarted my journey as a Web3 Content Creator. As I met more people in the industry, more opportunities opened up for me.

Currently, I am the Chief Marketing Officer of XOVOX Labs, a Metaverse game development studio in the Philippines.

What was your first crypto or NFT project?

My first crypto was BTC. I bought it in 2017 through Coins.PH and my first NFT was a free airdrop for attending Art Fair Philippines 2021.

How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?

I help people understand the technology by showing and teaching the skills/tools that they could use to build in the Metaverse.

Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?

I’ve been influenced by many people in the industry, including those from Yield Guild Games. Kookoo Crypto TV, Spraky, and Shanks supported me at the start of my journey.

I admire Yat Siu of Animoca Brands and have been fortunate to meet him in person at the Web3 PH Festival. I also appreciate the dedication of Jeffrey “Jihoz” Zirlin of Axie Infinity, and have been lucky to meet him as well.

Ismael Jerusalem of Ownly has inspired me with his persistence through multiple bear markets. I am also grateful for our brothers from BayaniChain and the talented individuals at XOVOX Labs who share the goal of educating and producing more Filipino builders in the Metaverse.

Each person I meet teaches me something new and I am thankful for all of their contributions.

What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?

One of the proudest moments in my career was how much I have achieved in the industry. I started as a scholar, then became a content creator, and now I am the Chief Marketing Officer of XOVOX Labs. I am grateful for all the opportunities that Web 3 has provided me and I am eager for what the future holds.

What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?

Definitely AI and Blockchain

What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?

Avoid feeling overwhelmed and exercise caution. Acquire as much knowledge as possible. And if you have a genuine passion for Web 3, discover your calling and strive to contribute value.

If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?

I am a big admirer of TED talks! I would love to speak about being a “Jack of all trades, master of none.” We live in an era where things are constantly changing, especially in technology. Thus, it is inevitable that we will continuously learn new skills and acquire multiple abilities in the future.

What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?

A multi-tool with embossed print “God is with me”.
