POW with Josef Singson
Josef Singson is a licensed portfolio manager and a part-time teacher, helping people with regards to crypto and financial literacy.
What were you doing before Web3?
I am a portfolio manager and teach-part time at the University of Asia and the Pacific. I give many financial literacy talks about the space, under the banner of Stocks City, a community I have where I help people LEVEL-UP their financial literacy.
How did you get into Web3?
I’ve been into crypto trading since 2017 and got into it as a means of diversifying my portfolio. At that time, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and alts were the strongest-performing asset classes and it was a no-brainer to look into the space.
What was your first crypto or NFT project?
The first crypto I ever bought was Bitcoin since at that time, I didn’t really know much about alts. The first NFT project I participated in was NBA Top Shot. The funny thing is, I don’t play ball, and at that time, I didn’t follow the NBA yet. I only became a fan recently!
How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?
I do my best to help people manage their investments so that they have more time to do the things they want to do.
Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?
I’m a huge fan of the All-In Podcast. Industry veterans, degenerate gamblers & besties Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, David Sacks & David Friedberg cover all things economic, tech, political, social & poker. This was/is their official description by the way from their socials.
What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Personally, I’m proud to be back in my alma mater to teach part-time and mentor students. Additionally, I’m fortunate to be in the process of getting my CMT (Chartered Market Technician) designation as I am currently a CMT Level 3 Candidate. This is basically the technical analysis equivalent or version of the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).
What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?
Excited and bullish on AI, liquid-staking derivatives (LSDs), Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solutions, and Bitcoin ordinals. This is in no particular order and is not financial advice. TAYOR (trade at your own risk) and DYOR (do your own research).
What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?
Understand how the economy works, market cycles, and find the best narratives. Learn, enjoy, and make mistakes – the rest will follow.
If you could do a TED talk on any topic, what would it be?
Long Yourself – The Trade of a Lifetime. Watch out! I’ll make this a reality haha!
What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?
I asked ChatGPT and it told me to bring a swiss-knife. Cool, that makes sense, let’s go with that.
Other Notes:
All comments and opinions = mine and DO NOT represent any other individuals or institutions I am directly and indirectly affiliated with. Not financial advice. Trade at your own risk. Do your own research. Good luck with the markets!
POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
