POW with JMC

Let’s welcome JMC, a wholehearted degen and advocate pushing mental health awareness to fellow degens in the Web3 space.

What were you doing before Web3?

I am a customer service practitioner in one of the Philippines’ biggest real estate developers. I am an aspiring photographer and writer, and my passion is to advocate for Mental Health awareness.

How did you get into Web3?

A friend introduced me to BTC and ETH last 2018, and I invested a little in crypto. NFTs then came last 2021.

A generous person by the handle of Lady Crypto shouldered the OpenSea one-time fee for me, and I was able to launch my first art collection which sold out in 2 days.

What was your first crypto or NFT project?

My first NFT project was called “Momento”. It is a collection of 8 artworks created using an AI text-to-image generator. I minted it last September 2021, back when AI was not yet the hype that it is today.

“Momento” presents images that depict concepts such as life, joy, depression, sacrifice, minimalism, time, emptiness, and giving.

How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?

You are joining a community free of boundaries, wherein you can maximize the use of blockchain technology to improve the way you live and interact with society. You are basically peeking into the future of technology!

Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?

Two of the best thought leaders in the space for me is JBond and Isabella. They are truly passionate about educating and onboarding more Filipinos to Web3. They believe that we can uplift our countrymen and elevate the Philippines as one of the best venues for Web3 technology and education.

What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?

I must say, nothing beats the feeling of selling out your first NFT collection so far. This is a special collection, since it tackles on Mental Health awareness, which I am passionately pursuing in Web3.

What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?

Ethereum’s ERC-4337 upgrade is very interesting and has a massive potential to onboard practically everyone to web3. I am interested how current projects and even web2 companies will maximize this opportunity to improve technology and society.

What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?

You should enter Web3 with the proper mindset and perspective of learning how it can improve the way you live. Do not enter the space thinking that you can “invest” money and expect a future return. Web3 is not just about NFTs. Learn about blockchain technology more. Watch this video for a great introduction to blockchain:

If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?

I would do a talk on Mental Health and share my experience on dealing with my wife’s Depression. It is a very humbling and eye-opening experience, and I wish to inspire more people to be kind to one another and help in erasing the stigma around mental illnesses.

What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?

My camera.

POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
