POW with Jeth Ang
Jeth Ang is a P2E Guild Leader and the COO of BreederDAO. Besides that, he is also included in Forbes 30 Under 30 of 2022.
What were you doing before Web3?
I’m a businessman. I’ve dabbled in opportunities in real estate, construction, tourism and e-commerce. Before becoming a full-on entrepreneur, I worked business development in corporate for 2 years after college. I realized quickly it wasn’t for me.
How did you get into Web3?
I first found out about BTC in 2013. Wired money to Japan (Mt. Gox), 5x’ed my initial capital…. and then Mt. Gox went bust.
I participated in the 2017 bull run as well but never held any tokens. I wish I held and bought more in 2013, but hindsight is 20/20.
What was your first crypto or NFT project?
I wouldn’t call it a formal business – but the first time I did anything aside from trading in the crypto space was brokering P2P transactions for Bitcoin.
Back then, the infrastructure was not yet built. Large amounts of BTC were exchanged anonymously through telegram groups. There was lots of trust involved, and was quite an exciting time.
In 2021, I also started a P2E guild with some of my business partners. We reached a peak of 550 scholars playing Axie Infinity.
How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?
Games have economies that function similar to real-life ones. In these economies, assets are bought and sold between players. These assets are what you need in order to play the game, and the better your assets, the easier the game becomes for you, the more you can potentially earn.
What BreederDAO does is manufacture these high-quality gaming assets at scale using a combination of game knowledge, data analytics and a proprietary tech stack, for players to use and to give them an advantage over the rest.
We’re also exploring digital assets beyond just blockchain games and extending to virtual worlds. The intersection between digital fashion, gaming & user generated content is of big interest to us. Things are currently in the pipeline where we plan to produce assets of this nature as well. We’re very excited about this – stay tuned for updates!
Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?
The founder of ED3N Ventures, who incubated us, is a wealth of business knowledge and wisdom. A conversation with him is always a learning experience.
What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Starting BreederDAO from 0 to a 75 man team and everything in between that happened. Our public sale was one of the most exciting and high-pressure things I’ve experienced as well.
What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?
I’m all-in on the blockchain gaming thesis. I sincerely believe blockchain gaming will bring in mass adoption. More than 30% of the world population plays video games. It’s a universal language. We’re here to build infrastructure for what we believe will be the biggest use-case of blockchain gaming in the coming years & decades.
Aside from blockchain gaming, I’m also looking keeping a close look at the development of DeFi. There are exciting “zero-to-one” innovations being developed by talented teams, most of which can only be done through blockchain technology. These products may draw inspiration from TradFi, but their application and implementation on blockchain is truly unique and that’s exciting.
What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?
Don’t be afraid to fail. It’s volatile, it’s unpredictable, it’s full of bad actors. But it’s all part of the experience – the nature of decentralization makes it so. Learn and read as much as you can and learn navigate the waters. There’s so much opportunity still left in the space for innovators to grab and take advantage of.
If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?
Haha! I do not consider myself an expert in anything – I’d like to think I’m still always continuously learning new things. But if i were forced to really do a TED Talk – it would be a basic talk on blockchain technology. Too much emphasis is put on price and speculation that those entering the space end up becoming demotivated if or once they lose money. The tech should always come first. A TED talk that would go into the basics of blockchain technology, what the use-cases are and what makes it so innovating and ground-breaking.
What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?
Can I bring a set of things? If so, my freediving gear and a speargun.
POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
