POW with Evie

Evie is a seasoned NFT artist and digital illustrator. Besides that, she is also the co-artist of @Dropouts_xyz among other projects.

What were you doing before Web3?

I’m a Digital Illustrator for almost 8 years now. I worked on a couple of NFT projects and commissions here in the Philippines and internationally. And before Web3, I’m an architecture student at Mapua University.

How did you get into Web3?

I entered the web3 scene back in February 2022, In which I meet new people who eventually become my friends (The Tanod Republic).

A notable person among them, is Maxx, my co-founder, and sub-artist of “The Project Yokai” which got me hooked. He’s the first artist I worked with who supported me and acquainted me with some people in the space – as we both learn in our own creative pursuits.

What was your first crypto or NFT project?

My first NFT project was a passion project called “The Project Yokai”. It was an art-based project with a series of 1:1 NFT collections called “The Littles”, with the purpose of funding my cat “Shiori” medication and surgery after being diagnosed with kidney failure. However after 5 months of fighting he eventually rested.

This project becomes a jump start as I continue to build my artist career in Web3, which gave me opportunities for various projects.

How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?

That I’m a freelance artist who does commissioned work for NFT projects.

Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?

Artist Zeen Chin is an inspiration of mine.  The way he presents his illustrations, his art style and concepts are unique to me, and a skill I want to attain in the future.

What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?

There have been some milestones tbh, and I’ll be mentioning three.

Firstly, being able to share and teach art fundamentals and techniques to my fellow artist in the community.

Second, being part of the FINartists of the ABANTE BABAE collection by FilipinasNFT and being part of their physical exhibits.

And third, I’m grateful for being a part of the Dropouts team that minted out – a charity-based project that aims to help Filipino middle-school students receive a quality education, by building a mini school library.

What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?

Aside from ETH, Solana, and Tezoz platforms, I’m watching various project communities that heavily support artists.

What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?

Stay vigilant and wary of people and projects who rug and scam. Only invest something you’re willing to lose.

If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?

“Dont just practice everyday, but practice deliberately” An Art TED talk would be ideal because I love sharing and teaching the mileage, I acquire to those aspiring artists.

What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?

A massive amount of cat food, because for sure my cat will be there as well :3
