POW with Alfred Alexander Quiambao
Alfred Quiambao’s passion for Web3 has led him to become the Head of Engagement for the Diamond NFT Supercommunity.
From his humble beginnings as a college student and online gamer, Alfred’s dedication and hard work have paid off, and he now holds a leadership position in one of the most innovative and exciting communities in the Web3 space.
Alfred’s journey serves as an inspiration to those looking to make a name for themselves in the Web3 world.
What were you doing before Web3?
Before Web3, I was just a college student taking up BS Computer Science program. I also spent my early days playing online games. Just a typical idle guy doing nonsense things in life – but hey! I also spent a huge chunk of my 2020 looking for different sources of income opportunities.
How did you get into Web3?
I got into Web3 when I asked my college friends: “How can we earn money and enjoy at the same time?” Then they told me about Axie Infinity, a project with a play-to-earn mechanics in which we play an online game and earn a good amount of money on the side.
After investing and playing Axie Infinity for 1 month, I volunteered as a community helper at the beginning, then became the Community Manager at Axies Alerts PH (Current YGG Alerts) for 9 months.
I also had a chance to invest in other Binance Smart Chain (BSC) Play-to-Earn NFT projects. The rest is history!
What was your first crypto or NFT project?
My first ever NFT was Axie Infinity, then followed by other P2E NFT projects. My first PFPs were some local/Filipino-made NFT projects under Polygon. Pretty funny to see I’m not holding any of those “firsts” anymore.
How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?
Interesting question. Maybe I’ll just go with this statement: “I work in the tech industry but I talk to a lot of people and I also collect, trade, and invest in JPEGs for a living”.
Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?
There are a lot of good thoughtful leaders I enjoy learning from but the one that stood out was Diamond Cruiser, Founder of Diamond NFT Super community. I enjoy listening to his insights on every Web2 and Web3 situations, most importantly his take on this space.
What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Oh wow, I’ve never thought of this one. Maybe the biggest highlight of my career was when I’ve minted CyberBrokers by Josie Bellini last March 2022. Minting this amazing project was my breaking point in Web3. It’s like everything turned out too good to be true and it was eye-opening for me because of how solid the community was.
Short story right here – I was very active on our holder’s chat then some good folks from CyberBrokers community asked me if I was looking for a solid NFT community with Filipino members. Oh boy, they introduced me to Diamond NFT Supercommunity, my Web3 family.
What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?
I’m looking forward to see how far we can integrate AI in our workforce and pretty exciting to see how it will change the education system a few years from now.
Another thing I’m looking forward to seeing is how will these big Web2 brands transition or integrate NFTs in their products and business structure. And of course, CyberBrokers.
What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?
The best advice I can give to someone “fresh” in Web3 is: Find and join a Web3 community that can help and support you in your journey. Always remember to do your own research and don’t let your emotions make your decisions. Keep your mind and heart strong – Web3 journey is a bumpy ride since we are all still early!
If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?
Pressure Makes Diamonds.
What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?
A multi-tool, same answer with ChatGPT.
POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
