POW with Francis Lim
He is also the creator and founder of Francis Lim Virtual Art Exhibit, a digital art gallery that serves as a household for his renowned artworks.
What were you doing before Web3?
Before Web3, I’m focusing on improving my painting skills. That’s also the time I met my mentor, Fernando Sena, who taught me the basics and fundamentals of painting.
I was previously an active member of the Philippine Guild of Watercolorists. I’ve met a lot of great watercolor artists both for local and international artists, and they helped me improve my skills in watercolor.
How did you get into Web3?
Way back in 2018, my friend introduced me to cryptocurrencies and encouraged me to invest at my own risks. That’s when I started to explore Web3. My first NFT drop occurred in the year 2021, and that’s also when I started to engage in the Web3 community.
What was your first crypto or NFT project?
Fire Me Up Balloon was my first NFT project on OpenSea Marketplace, minted in Polygon blockchain. It’s a variety of pixel art balloons, and it was my entry point into Web 3. I give away my first NFT releases to the community in order to get my name out there.
How would you explain what you do to someone outside of Web3?
As of now, I’m really focusing on my family. I have a 2-year-old daughter, and my wife is pregnant to our second baby. I thank God because, despite all these blessings, I was able to continue creating and engaging with the community.
Which creator or thought leader do you enjoy learning from?
Jopet Arias, Bjorn Calleja, Andre Baldovino, and John Verlin Santos are the Web3 creators that I have always admired the most. Their consistency with the community for me is “NAKAKAMANGHA!” ( amazing). Apart from being great creators, I have no idea how they were able to do all those things at once!
What is the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Aside from the NFT I sold last year, I’m proud to be one of the genesis artists on the Likha NFT Marketplace. They open up a lot of doors, especially now that they are collaborating with Draper Start-Up House.
I’m also honored to be a part of Draper’s Artist Collective Program, which is the gateway to having my work displayed at the Makati Museum, a physical museum.
I’m also proud of the community-driven success of Crypto Art PH.I’m one of their exhibitor, “Baraha Collection,” to the Art Fair PH!
What tech or crypto trend are you watching this year?
AI and Blockchain.
What advice would you give someone starting out in Web3?
Be consistent in what you are doing. Participate in the community and, if possible, take some time to rest. Don’t forget to drink your water! Haha
If you could do a TEDtalk on any topic, what would it be?
How to love and appreciate yourself.
What is the one thing you would bring if you were stuck on a deserted Island?
1 boat with full of containers of fresh water haha
POW stands for “Proof of Work.” It is a new feature article series in The Mega Maxi to highlight the savviest builders in the Web3 space.
