World Baseball Champion Using NFTs to Help Save Lives
Without thinking about it too much, Matt Szcuzur, a World Series champion, joined a bone marrow registry last year. His coach, Andy Talley, was the one who encouraged him to be in the organization, which is called Be The Match. This organization became the link that connects bone marrow donors and recipients, as well as raises funds to help people suffering from blood cancers that appear to be life-threatening, such as lymphoma and leukemia.
Then, soon enough, Sczcur became invested in and involved in NFTs. During the pandemic, his fellow MLB player, Micah Johnson, approached and asked Sczcur if he’d be interested in a collaboration for an NFT project.
A suggestion from Johnson was considered, which is a portrait of George Floyd. Their unique approach to creating this artwork resulted in their piece selling in less than six minutes, allowing them to continue to support and be dedicated to fighting injustices and standing alongside the black community.
