Google Play Welcomes NFT-integrated Games

Your one-stop mobile app store finally shifts its interest to Web3 as it permits developers to launch blockchain-based games in the app.

It’s bullish news for mobile degens and gamers alike, as they can now play NFT games on their phones!

By noting Ubisoft and Epic Games’ recent announcements, Google Play finally joins the mission of bringing blockchain-based games into the market.

And with this huge update, Web3 is now one step closer to becoming accessible for all, especially for traditional users.

So, if you’re interested to learn more, let’s dive in below!

The Alpha

After years of contradicting the idea of NFT-based games, Google Play finally announced a significant change in its policy.

A shift that allows developers to integrate digital assets into their games and other apps in the store.

Although this development benefits both sides, developers that offer trading or earning NFTs in their apps must emphasize in the Play Console that the feature is present.

This way, users are aware of the blockchain-based elements and for Google Play to uphold its act of transparency.

More details about Google Play’s shift

Following Google Play’s latest build-out, many people are optimistic about the store’s plans and where it’s currently headed.

In fact, Google Play’s own Group Product Manager, Joseph Miller, states that this update will allow partners to reimagine “traditional games with user-owned content” and boost “user loyalty through unique NFT rewards.”

Besides that, Mills also emphasized the importance of user trust when applying this feature in apps.

“while tokenized assets are meant to build more enriched, immersive experiences, as an added user protection, developers may not promote or glamorize any potential earning from playing or trading activities.” he said.

This will not only avoid unethical marketing from developers, but also maintains Google Plays’ Real-Money Gambling, Games, and Contests policy.

Why did they only support the idea now?

Before this update, many developers see their previous policy on blockchain-based apps as unfair, limiting their apps from maximizing profits due to existing policies.

Take “Bitcoin Blast,” for example; this game got kicked out of the Play Store in 2021 without a proper explanation from the company.

Moreover, the store also banned crypto mining apps in 2018, and its policy of banning them hasn’t changed even with the recently revised policy.

In line with these, Google Play only adopted Web3 innovations now because people before perceived Web3 as a scam.

And Web3 before is less polished than what it is today. Therefore, Google Play didn’t fully support its system.

Sentiments from the Web3 community

As soon as the news went out, several blockchain enthusiasts immediately got bullish on the future of gaming.

They were excited with the features they will experience in mobile games from now on, from customizing to trading NFTs.

Some degens are also stoked with the opportunities that they will have, given that mobile games have almost the same amount of user-base as computer applications.

And lastly, whales are now ready to find their next Axie Infinity to invest in and get their bags up.

Wow, exciting times ahead! Google Play is opening doors to NFTs in apps.

Imagine customizing your gaming experience with your unique digital assets. Even more reason to love our collectibles.

The future of gaming is here, folks! 🚀🎮

Conclusion

Web3 is now gradually diving into the traditional market, introducing itself in front of the eyes of traditionalists.

And given its fast-paced improvement, it’s only a matter of time before Web3 will lead the digital space’s continuous uptrend.
