Tambay OG is an NFT collection launched on the Polygon blockchain through the newest Digital Collectible marketplace in the country, Mintoo.
The collection, just like the marketplace, is loud and proud to be Pinoy. Through its art and lore, Tambay OG celebrates everything good about being Filipino. You’ll notice so many small details scattered around like easter eggs in this generative art collection. Case in point, the private mint was set on June 13, setting the characters free right after Independence Day. The collection is inspired by the people you meet in your neighborhood as well everyday goings-on in your typical barangay. You’ll notice that the Art of Tambay takes cues from the works of the most ubiquitous local comic artists: Tarantadong Kalbo, Pupung, Larry Alcala, and Pugad Baboy. Take a peek into the inner lives of Ka Berting, Aling Pacing, Bunak, and the
people in Brgy. May Pag-Asa, and hopefully you’ll have a laugh and maybe even learn a thing or two.
On the surface, you might think that this project is just about humor and sheer kalokohan but it goes much deeper than that. The goal is to build a community known for Pinoy diskarte. See, even before community was a thing, Pinoys have carved out a reputation for helping each other out especially in the face of challenging times – bayanihan, and this trait is celebrated the world over. The dream is to create a space to facilitate community-sourced life hacks, enabled by Web3.
The creators of Tambay firmly believe that improving one’s status in life, reaching one’s next health / fitness / relationship / career / finance / lifestyle goal is made easy and possible through the help of people around you. You might start as a Tambay but who knows what you can achieve through community. Not just fun and games, right?
Behind this PFP Project is Mintoo Studios, the creative arm of the Mintoo NFT Marketplace. This team is composed of veterans not just in the NFT and crypto space, but experienced entrepreneurs and professionals in the banking, retail, and the creative industries. Joining the team as an advisor is JBond, founder of BAYCkada – a community of Pinoy Bored Ape Yacht Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT holders, renowned NFT collector, and part of the team behind the famed NFT-inspired burgers, Bored & Hungry.
With the launch of the Tambay OG collection, collectors have a taste of the gacha experience that best NFT projects are known for. These are all enabled by the Mintoo NFT marketplace that has built-in features allowing their creators to offer Exclusive Collections (aka whitelisting) and Reveals (aka blind minting).
As the Mintoo Studios team calls it, normie-friendly, but degen approved. Mintoo Studios is challenging the norms of NFT collections, breaking stereotypes persistent in the digital collectible industry: 1) Pinoy NFTs are rugs 2) NFTs have to be expensive 3) It’s all about the flip or financial gains. Mintoo Studios has created the Tambay OG collection as a showcase of what NFTs can actually do, especially in the FIlipino context. Hopefully, the NFT collection becomes the case study or playbook that other artists, celebrities, and brands can follow as they build out their own Web3 community building strategies. In short, mass adoption is the goal.
As of writing, the collection is sold out, with select NFTs available for sale in the secondary market. The team knows that it’s just the beginning. Next on the roadmap is building up the utility and partnerships that will give the community members access to their next upgrade in life. Last June 30, Mintoo Studios threw a Reveal Party unveiling the initial Tambay collection.
